HDK updates
HDK: almost there;-)
Hello everybody,
as you can see I just changed the lay-out of my myspace page.
Man, I forgot how difficult that was, all these myspace codes, I just don't understand how so many of you manage to have all those special feautures on your profiles!
I'd like to thank my good friend Paul for some of the artwork on this page!!!
Anyway, I'm glad it worked out at least partially, I have to change some stuff along the way but at least this is a start:-)
You'll be finding the new HDK cover on the profile, made by Jerome Cross and Paul Niessen,
it really matches the atmosphere of the music, more about that later!
Photobucket
The upcoming time I'll be adding a youtube clip with lots of musicclips of HDK and great artwork, made by my friends of D'images:
http://www.dimages.nl
Of course I'll also be adding HDK music soon, more pics and other info.
The release date in Europe will be february the 23th 2009!
In this period, I'm doing I'm couple of listening sessions for various magazines and websites, after that I'll be doing the interviews.
If you are interested in doing an interview for your own webzine or magazine, just send me a message on this myspace site.
Thanks for all of your support, I'll keep you updated about HDK and After Forever, can't wait to be able to finally release the album together with Season of Mist!
As you might have noticed I just didn't get to reply all of the messages, be sure I will do that the upcoming weeks!
Take care,
Sander

HDK DISSECTED
Upcoming release: "System Overload" (CD Digipak)
Release date: February 23rd, US April 21st
www.myspace.com/sandergommans
Now that the release date of HDK's debut album "System Overload" has been announced, it is time to unveil the artwork and tracklisting of Sander Gommans' wicked brainchild.
Tracklist:
1. System Overload
2. Request
3. Let Go
4. Terrorist
5. Pedestal
6. On Hold
7. Breakdown
8. March
9. Perfect
10. Fight Or Flight
11. Fine Lines
We asked Sander what the artwork of the album was about, so here is what the mastermind has to say:
"The artwork of the HDK album represents the crucial fragile part of a human being: the brain. Since the whole album deals about stress, the brain is an important part of that subject. It's amazing how much a brain can take, but also how it reacts if it's overloaded with information. The artwork is based on that situation. With the use of brain scans and other medical pics, the atmosphere of the booklet really matches the atmosphere of the music!"

Yeah, it's not bad at all, but could be better. I don't think it shows how their music goes (as Sander said).

Re: HDK updates
Request- first HDK song online
Hi everybody,
as promised, here's the first song "Request" of my HDK project.
Some of you already heard this song in a pre-mix version, this is the final version.
Here's some extra info of this song:
....
The song Request is about myspace.
Although myspace certainly has a positive side,
this song reflects the negative side.
I wanted to write a song about this, because I saw
a lot of things happening on myspace that attracted my attention.
First, I'd like to give you the lyrics Amanda
wrote:
Request
Temptation summons you
in
Into a world where you're craving the sin
You're tasting it
Bite
the apple
Stroke the serpent
Chorus:
Welcome to the freak
show
No one will ever know
Where you stay, where you go
Send your
rejects
No beginning, no end
To the messages sent
A disposable
friend
Send your request now
Communities never asleep
Slaying their
numbers of friends like they're sheep
Collecting heads
Pimp me
up
Add me now
:Chorus
Hazard!
By-products of your
existence
Caution!
Addiction knows no resistance
Sickness drags you
further in the machine
Coward!
Take cover, run, hide behind the
screen
Wickedly cover your tracks
They're searching, but you can slip
through any crack
Into the void
Hack and violate
Flee and
vacate
:Chorus
As you can see, these lyrics are about the fact many myspace users seem
to be obsessed with having as many friends as possible online, they don't
realise they forget to make friends in real life.
Again, I'm not saying it's not possible to make friends through myspace,
but there's also another world out there you should pay attention too in my
opinion. You can't "add" and "delete" friends, and the way friends are chosen online by their looks or interests is also
a bit strange in my opinion. The way people can make remarks about other people
online and share all their private stuff on their profile with their new
"friends" worries me, and that's what these lyrics are about. I'm sure a lot of
you out there have gained great friendships because of myspace, but I'm talking
about the ones that don't seem to connect with people in real life and are
obsessed to keep their online friends happy, no matter what.
This song has a somewhat different style than some of the more extreme
songs, it's a mixture of death/thrash and power metal, the powermetal influence
is certainly because of Andre Matos participating in this one!
He used his more agressive voice though, wich sounds great in my opinion!
His vocal ranges were crucial for this song, man, what a voice! I think this is
also one of the more progressive songs compositionwise and I'm happy to have had
the chance working with those great musicians who make the song really heavy and
tight.
The whispers were done by Amanda and me, I also did the grunts in the
midpart. Just like all of the other HDK songs, Joost and I did the mix, I loved
mixing this song especially because of all the different sounds in it and the
percussive character of the verse and chorus. The solo in this song is also
played by me, it was the first solo I wrote for HDK and since I never really
played this kind of solos in After Forever, it was a
cool experience!

Re: HDK updates
news!
HDK: SYSTEM OVERLOAD released!
Hi everybody!!!!
It feels weird to write my first personal blog without thinking about the future of After Forever.
I'd like to dedicate this blog to the release HDK by Season of Mist, but obviously I can't start it without mentioning how much I appreciated your comments about the end of After Forever.
While promoting HDK, I also had a lot of questions about After Forever, and I guess you can read a lot about that in the upcoming interviews.
For now, all I'd like to say is that, despite of all the negative experiences, I look back at almost 15 years of fun, excitment and musical dicoveries, mainly thanks to your support and to the great experiences I 've shared with the rest of the bandmembers.
After Forever will live on, and it's great to read our albums still support you in many ways!
Now, it's time to focuss on the present, you'll never know what might happen in the future!
Today, HDK will be launched officially in Europe,
and I truly hope you can find the time to give this album a try!
As you can imagine, ending After Forever has been far from easy and still hurts, but it's great to see that a lot of people still seem to be interested in HDK!
A lot of journalists have been checking out HDK very thouroughly, and the results so far are FAR more positive than I could have hoped for.
This is a very experimental album and not at all the album people were expecting from me, but maybe that's the reason it's being recieved so well in most in the press.
On the mainpage of my myspace I've added some of the pressresults so far, and I'll be updating this regularly.
Here are some of the current results I'd like to
share with you:

:-)
(I'll be putting the full reviews online soon)
Today, I added the title track System Overload to my myspace (and hyves), the opener of the album and a pretty agressive one!
The vocals were done by Patrick Savelkoul (screams), Jos Severens (clean vocals chorus and midpart), Amanda Somerville (backing vocals chorus/midpart) and myself (grunts/screams midpart).
This song reflects what happens when your brain is overworked- the system (the brain) is overloaded, and all it can do is "stop" working. I expierenced that on my flight to an After Forever gig where I got the attack.
Hope you all like the song, I tried to combine thrash with heavy metal, and I think the great lyrics and vocallines of Amanda and the excellent skills of all the HDK musicians certainly contributed to that!
Let me know what you think of it, I might be adding more tracks soon.
I can also announce that an HDK site will be launched probably in the end of this week, in time I'll add some cool material about the making of the album/reviews/interviews, it'll also contain a forum where we can stay in touch and talk about HDK and all kinds of other stuff.
Just like on the After Forever forum, I'll be regularly checking this one!
The adress of the site will be www.projecthdk.com , I'll let you know when
it's online!
Speaking of sites, I'd also like to give you the link of a site of Carl Begai http://carlbegai.com/, be sure some cool (metal) news will be posted on this one in a way only Carl can provide you this!:-)
Since Amanda Somerville has contributed a lot to the HDK album and since I really like her last solo album Windows, I also wanted to let you know that she'll be re-releasing her album in may in a special edition version, check out www.myspace.com/amandasomervillemusic!
Well, so far so good, though HDK is no live band I still hope it gets a chance, which is not easy in a changing music business where albums are downloadable for free weeks before the actual release.
The album might be available in your local cd sore,
but if you'd like to buy one, this link is also useful:
http://e-shop.season-of-mist.com/search.php?do_action=search&id_categorie=0&SearchString=hdk
For all those who bought to album or supported HDK in any other way: THANKS!!!!!!!
I'll keep you updated, stay tuned!
Cheers,
Sander
Re: HDK updates
